Conduct: Janette Kumar (“Ms Kumar”) caused Punjabi Curry Limited (“PCL”) to obtain a Government backed Bounce Back Loan (“BBL”) in the sum of £50,000 by overstating its turnover on the BBL application resulting in PCL receiving more funds from the BBL scheme than it was entitled to. In that: • Under the BBL scheme businesses could apply for a loan of between £2,000 and £50,000 subject to a maximum of 25% of turnover. The turnover figure was self-certified by the applicant. The turnover figure required was that for the 2019 calendar year. • PCL was incorporated on 5 June 2017, • On 12 May 2020 Ms Kumar, on behalf of PCL, applied for a Government backed BBL of £50,000; • The turnover of the Company was stated as £200,000 on the BBL application form; • The unaudited financial statements for the Company for the year ending 30 June 2020 states the annual turnover as £84,200 and for the year ending 30 June 2019, the turnover was £83,616 • Ms Kumar overstated the turnover of the Company, obtaining an additional £28,950 in BBL funding to which the Company was not entitled to; • PCL entered Creditors’ Voluntary Liquidation on 28 March 2023 • At liquidation a total of £49,192.82 was outstanding in respect of the BBL. Ms Kumar paid £8,000 to the liquidator.
