Conduct: While director of Eco Tooth Limited, Joshua Oates (“Mr Oates”) committed fraud by false representation, specifically by submitting falsified paperwork to secure UK Government grant funding to which the Company was not entitled, in that: • On 23 August 2021 Mr Oates applied for UK Government grant funding on behalf of Eco Tooth Ltd. • The funding award was ‘match funded’ and claimed retroactively, with up to 70% of incurred project expenses to be covered. It was to be paid over four quarters in 2022 upon the receipt of paperwork evidencing project expenditure. • On 18 January 2022 Mr Oates received a grant offer letter for the award which offered the funding to Eco Tooth Ltd, subject to the applicant agreeing to the grant’s associated terms and conditions, which were attached to the Grant Offer Letter. • On 18 January 2022 Mr Oates signed the Grant Offer Letter accepting the grant’s terms and conditions. • In August 2022 and November 2022 Mr Oates submitted falsified documents (bank statements, payslips, and timesheets) in support of grant funding claims for quarters 2 and 3, for which a total of £43,243 was paid out to Eco Tooth Ltd. • Following an investigation by UK Research and Innovation (UKRI), on 4 May 2023 Mr Oates admitted that he had committed fraud and falsified documents to obtain UK Government grant funding. • On 4 September 2025 Mr Oates was convicted of Fraud, contrary to Section 2 of the Fraud Act 2006, for which he received a 20-month prison sentence, suspended for 2 years. • Prior to sentencing, Mr Oates repaid the grant funding of £43,243.
