Conduct: On 28 May 2020 Ms Marwa Ahmadi (‘Ms Ahmadi’) applied for and obtained a Government-backed Bounce Back Loan (‘BBL’) of £50,000 from Bank A for Mariam Food Ltd t/a PGC Chicken & Pizza (‘Mariam’) to which it was not entitled, by providing false and/or inaccurate information regarding Mariam’s turnover in 2019. In that: Obtaining a BBL • The BBL scheme permitted a loan of up to 25% of a business’ turnover in the calendar year 2019 or estimated turnover if it had been established after 01 January 2019. • Mariam was incorporated on 07 January 2019. • Micro company accounts made up to 31 January 2020 do not show a turnover. • Mariam opened a business bank account with Bank A on 12 January 2019. The first transactions on the account commencing from 30 April 2019 onwards, other than one unpaid direct debit on 11 March 2019 • The turnover in the Barclays account between 30 April 2019 to 31 May 2020 (the date before the BBL application) was £14,070. • Based on the 13-month turnover of £14,070, Mariam was eligible for a maximum BBL of £3,517. • On 28 May 2020 Ms Ahmadi applied for a BBL of £50,000 stating that Mariam’s turnover in 2019 was £210,000. • No explanation or evidence has been provided demonstrating Mariam had the prospect of achieving turnover at the level stated in the BBL application for the calendar year 2019. • Mariam obtained £46,483 in additional BBL funding to which it was not entitled.
