Conduct: On 16 August 2020 Michael Wood (“Mr Wood”) caused Woods Craft Joinery Ltd (“the company”) to make a Bounce Back Loan (“BBL”) application for £50,000 when he knew, or ought to have known, that the company turnover supported an application for a loan of £8,005 at most. As a result, the company obtained £41,995 more than it was entitled to from the BBL scheme. In that: Under the BBL scheme businesses that were established and operating before 1 March 2020 could apply for a loan of between £2,000 and £50,000 subject to a maximum of up to 25% of turnover. The turnover figure was self-certified by the applicant. The turnover figure required was that for the calendar year 2019. The company was incorporated on 3 December 2018. On 16 August 2020 Mr Wood applied for a BBL of £50,000 on behalf of the company declaring that its turnover for the calendar year 2019 was £200,000. The company received the BBL funds of £50,000 on 17 August 2020. The company operated one known bank account which shows receipts for the period 1 January to 31 December 2019 totalled £31,727. Unaudited statutory accounts for the year ended 31 December 2019, approved by the board 13 March 2020, show that for the period 3 December 2018 to 31 December 2019, company turnover was £32,021. Total liabilities at liquidation amount to £46,636 of which £42,500 relates to the monies owed in respect of the BBL.
