Conduct: Mr Syed Aktarul Alom (“Mr Alom”) breached the terms of the Bounce Back Loan (“BBL”) Scheme by causing Lux Car Rental Ltd (“Lux”) to overstate its turnover on its application for a BBL resulting in the company receiving a BBL of £50,000 when he knew or ought to have known that Lux was only eligible for a loan to a maximum value of £14,390 in that: • The BBL scheme terms allowed businesses to receive a loan of up to 25% of their annual turnover for the 2019 calendar year, which the applicant would self-certify when completing the BBL application. • Lux was incorporated on 24 July 2018. • Mr Alom declared on the company’s BBL application form an actual annual turnover of £210,000, and consequently on 21 July 2020 the company received a £50,000 BBL, the maximum loan amount possible under the BBL scheme. • Lux bank statements for 1 January 2019 to 31 December 2019 record receipts totalling £57,556.73, which would entitle Lux to a BBL with a maximum value of £14,390. Therefore Lux received at least £35,610 more monies than it was entitled to from the BBL scheme. • At liquidation, the company owed £100, 171.16, of which £47,636.73 was owed to the bank in respect of the BBL.
