Conduct: On 27 October 2020 Hemin Bayez Ahmed (“Mr Ahmed”) caused Istanbul New Style Ltd (“Istanbul”) to make a Bounce Back Loan (“BBL”) application for £42,000 which he knew or ought to have known was more than Istanbul was entitled to under the terms of the scheme. Mr Ahmed overstated Istanbul’s turnover and as a result Istanbul received more funds than it was entitled to from the BBL scheme. In that: • Istanbul was incorporated on 20 March 2018. • A business could apply for a loan of between £2,000 and £50,000 subject to a maximum of up to 25% of their turnover in the calendar year 2019. The turnover figure required was that for the calendar year 2019. • Mr Ahmed applied for a BBL of £42,000 on behalf of Istanbul declaring a turnover figure of £180,000 and on 01 November 2020, BBL funds of £42,000 were paid into Istanbul’s bank account. • Financial accounts for year-ended 31 March 2019 showed a turnover of £12,750. • Financial accounts for year-ended 31 March 2020 showed a turnover of £36,769. • Bank statements show that from February 2019 to March 2020 deposits of £33,252 were made into the bank account. • Based on the turnover figure from the year ended 31 March 2020 accounts, Istanbul was eligible for a BBL of £9,192 and therefore received £32,808 more than it was entitled to from the BBL scheme. • Repayments made towards the BBL totals £12,732. • On 16 January 2025, Istanbul entered Creditors Voluntary Liquidation with £31,623 owed in respect of the BBL.
