Conduct: Mr Trento Rogano Lonetto (“Mr Lonetto”) failed to ensure that Towequipe Ltd (“Towequipe”) complied with its statutory obligations to submit accurate returns to HM Revenue & Customs (“HMRC”) in respect of Value Added Tax (“VAT”) from the quarter ending 31 May 2018 to the quarter ending 30 November 2020, resulting in a loss to HMRC. In that: • Towequipe was registered for VAT from 01 June 2015. • Mr Lonetto was appointed as sole director of Towequipe on 10 May 2018 • Towequipe submitted VAT returns for the periods ending 31 May 2018 to 30 November 2020 totalling £136,388 and payments were made in full and on time. • On 05 October 2020 HMRC commenced an Online Selling Compliance Check to check the company’s VAT returns and records. • Towequipe submitted a further VAT return for the period ending 28 February 2021 and payment was duly made. • On 24 June 2021, as a result of their findings, HMRC raised assessments of VAT for the periods ending 31 August 2017 to 30 November 2020, totalling £632,145, of which £567,943 relates to the period Mr Trento was appointed as director. • In addition, on 28 July 2021, HMRC issued inaccuracy penalties to the company for the periods ending 31 August 2017 to 30 November 2020 totalling £94,815, of which £85,186 relates to the period Mr Lonetto was an appointed director. • HMRC have made a claim in the liquidation for the sum of £854,380.
