Conduct: Mohammed Rabiul Awal (“Mr Awal”) caused Jeera Spice Ltd (“Jeera Spice”) to apply for and obtain a Bounce Back Loan (BBL) of £50,000 on 22 May 2020 using overstated turnover figures in the application form. Consequently, Jeera Spice received £34,554 more than it was entitled to from the BBL scheme, in that: • The BBL criteria allowed a company to borrow between £2,000 and a maximum of £50,000 based on 25% of the company’s turnover in calendar year 2019 or where a business was established after 1 January 2019 it is their estimated turnover. • Jeera Spice was incorporated on 05 March 2015 and began trading thereafter. • On 22 May 2020, Mr Awal made an application to a financial institution for a BBL of £50,000 on behalf of Jeera Spice. • The loan application asked Jeera Spice to provide details of its annual turnover in 2019. Mr Awal stated on the application form that the turnover for Jeera Spice was £200,000. • Receipts into Jeera Spice’s bank account for the period 01 January 2019 to 31 December 2019 totalled £61,783.52. Jeera Spice was therefore only entitled to a BBL of £15,446 • The BBL funds of £50,000 were paid into the company’s bank account on 27 May 2020. • Jeera Spice entered Creditors’ Voluntary Liquidation on 15 September 2022. • At liquidation, Jeera Spice’s liabilities totalled £73,422 of which £47,290 is due in respect of the outstanding BBL.
