Conduct: On 25 June 2020 Jamil Ahmad (“Mr Ahmad”) caused Jaaz Textile Limited (“JaazThe Company”) to overstate its turnover on its application for a Bounce Back Loan (“BBL”) resulting in Jaaz receiving a BBL of £45,000 to which it was not entitled, in that: • Under the BBL scheme businesses could apply for a loan of between £2,000 and £50,000 subject to a maximum of up to 25% of turnover. The turnover figure was self-certified by the applicant. The turnover figure required was that for the calendar year 2019, or where a business was established after 1 January 2019, it is their estimated turnover. • Jaaz was incorporated on 12 June 2014 and so was not entitled to estimate its turnover. • Jaaz produced trading accounts for the year ending 30 June 2018, 2019 and 2020. The turnover for these accounting periods was £73,088, £71,854 and £55,759 respectively. • Jaaz’s bank statements shows that for the period 01 January 2019 to 31 December 2019 it’s turnover was £35,063. Accordingly, the maximum BBL to which the company would be entitled was £8,766 • In the company’s BBL application, Mr Ahmad declared the company’s 2019 turnover to be £187,000. • On 25 June 2020, the company received BBL funds of £45,000. • Jaaz made BBL repayments of £5,557 • Jaaz entered Creditors’ Voluntary Liquidation on 31 March 2023 • At liquidation £40,479 remained outstanding for the BBL.
