Conduct: On 14 December 2020, Shazad Iqbal (“Mr Iqbal”) caused Swift Garments Ltd (“Swift”) to apply for a Bounce Back Loan (“BBL”) of £50,000 using overstated turnover figures, which resulted in Swift obtaining a BBL that was at least £28,495 more than it was entitled to. In that: • Under the BBL scheme businesses could apply for a loan of between £2,000 and £50,000 subject to a maximum of up to 25% of turnover. The turnover figure was self-certified by the applicant. The turnover figure required was that for the calendar year 2019 or where a business was established after 01 January 2019 it is their estimated turnover. • Swift was incorporated on 06 February 2014. • On 14 December 2020, Mr Iqbal applied for a BBL of £50,000 on behalf of Swift, declaring that its turnover for the calendar year 2019 was £220,000. • Per Swift’s bank statements incoming payments for the calendar year 2019 and outstanding trade debtors totalled £86,018. This would have meant that Swift was entitled to apply for a BBL of no more than £21,505. • Swift received the BBL funds of £50,000 on 21 January 2021. Resulting in Swift receiving £28,495 more than it was entitled to from the BBL scheme. • Total liabilities at liquidation amount to £51,307 of which £45,103 relates to the amount owed in respect of the BBL.
