Conduct: On 18 June 2020 Jawad Ali (‘Mr Ali’) caused Bridge Factor Ltd (‘BFL’) to apply for a Bounce Back Loan (“BBL”) of £50,000 using overstated turnover figures, which resulted in BFL obtaining a BBL that was £47,250 more than it was entitled to. Under the BBL scheme a company could apply for a loan of between £2,000 and £50,000 subject to a maximum of up to 25% of turnover for either the 2019 calendar year or, if it started to trade on 01 January 2019 or later, could estimate its turnover for the calendar year from the date when it started to trade. BFL was incorporated in 2014 and as such was not entitled to use an estimated turnover figure on its BBL application. Annual accounts for the year to 31 January 2020 record the annual turnover of the company as £38,300 for the year to 31 January 2019, and £8,018 for the year to 31 January 2020. Mr Ali has stated that BFL’s turnover for 2019 was £11,000. Mr Ali made a BBL application on behalf of BFL on 18 June 2020 stating that BFL’s turnover was £225,000. On 19 June 2020, BFL received £50,000 in respect of the BBL application, which was £47,250 more than the company was entitled to receive, based on its actual turnover of £11,000 for 2019.
