The turnover figure was self-certified by the applicant. The turnover figure required was that for the calendar year 2019, or where a business was established after 01 January 2019, it was their estimated turnover. • AJI was incorporated on 08 July 2013. Accounts filed at Companies House show trading commenced in 2013 so Mr Jeyasingh knew or ought to have known that he could not estimate turnover in the BBL application. • Accounts prepared for years ended 31 July 2019 and 31 July 2020 show turnover of £71,853 and £67,404 respectively. • Bank statements for the calendar year 2019 show turnover of £70,873. • On 10 July 2020, Mr Jeyasingh applied for a £50,000 BBL on behalf of AJI, declaring that its annual turnover for the calendar year 2019 was £219,000, a total of £148,127 more than the true 2019 turnover.. • On 10 July 2020, BBL funds of £50,000 were credited into AJI’s bank account. • Based on the BBL criteria and company turnover in 2019 of £70,873, AJI was entitled to receive no more than £17,718 • As a result of the overstatement of turnover, AJI received £32,282 more than it was entitled to from the BBL scheme. • On 04 December 2024, AJI entered Creditors’ Voluntary Liquidation with total liabilities of £62,975, of which £44,438 relates to the outstanding BBL.
