As a result, VAT liabilities totalling £115,098 remain unpaid. • Thrillpic’s VAT return for quarter ended 30 September 2016 was submitted to HMRC on 31 October 2016 and showed the sum of £41,190 due for payment, but payment of this amount was not made at that time; • Thrillpic’s VAT liabilities for the period from quarter ended 30 September 2016 to quarter ended 30 June 2018 totalled £195,543, including surcharges raised by HMRC because of Thrillpic’s failure to submit its VAT payments as and when due; • Over the period from 07 November 2016 to 01 October 2018, Thrillpic made payments to HMRC allocated against its outstanding VAT liabilities totalling £84,368, of which £80,445 was allocated against liabilities due in periods from 30 September 2016, with only the VAT quarter ended 31 March 2017 being paid in full when due in the amount of £1,857. Different treatment • According to Thrillpic’s financial statements, as at 31 December 2016 the company’s liabilities included £63,353 owed to HMRC and £116,748 owed to other creditors. By the date of liquidation the amount Thrillpic owed to HMRC had increased by £210,504 to £273,857 (including Pay As You Earn tax and interest), whilst other creditors had increased by £12,882 to £129,630; • Thrillpic’s management accounts as at 31 December 2018 showed that liabilities to trade creditors totalled £48,122 of which £10,589 was over three months old.
