Conduct: On or around 24June 2020 Mr Giray Karsli (“Mr Karsli”) caused Golden Eagle Foods Limited (“GEFL”) to make a false application for a Bounce Back Loan (“BBL) of £50,000 when it was not actively trading and caused GEFL to breach the terms of the BBL scheme as it would not be in a position to make timely repayments in the future. Under the BBL scheme, businesses were able to apply for a BBL if they were engaged in trading or commercial activity in the UK at the date of the application, were carrying on business on 1 March 2020 and had been adversely affected by Covid. They were also required to confirm they had understood the costs associated with repayment of the loan and they were able and intended to complete timely repayments in the future. The company cancelled its VAT registration with HMRC with effect from 13 September 2018 as it had ceased trading. Mr Karsli completed an application to dissolve the company on 15 November 2018. On the BBL application form Mr Karsli declared the 2019 turnover as £529,000. The company bank statements for 2019 show credits totalling £649. GEFL received a BBL of £50,000 on 25 June 2020. Mr Karsli failed to evidence that £48,600 of the BBL was used for the economic benefit of GEFL. GEFL was dissolved on 22 December 2020.
