Conduct: In May 2020 Shahid Iqbal (‘Mr Iqbal) provided false and/or knowingly inaccurate information concerning the estimated turnover of Rescue Online Services Limited (‘ROS’) and on 19th May 2020 caused ROS to obtain a £50,000 Bounce Back Loan (‘BBL’) from the Government-backed BBL Scheme which it was not eligible to apply for, in that: • The BBL Scheme enabled a business to obtain a BBL of up to 25% of a business’ turnover (for the calendar year 2019) up to a maximum amount of £50,000. Where a business was established after 1 January 2019, the applicant was required to apply a 25% limit to the estimated annual turnover from the date they started the business. • Further Loan terms included the requirement for the company to be trading or engaged in commercial activity as of 01 March 2020 and for the company to use the loan to provide economic benefit to the business, and not for personal use. • ROS was incorporated on 31 October 2019. • ROS’s bank account was not opened until 6 January 2020. • There is no evidence of trading on the bank statements until 5 June 2020. • The only activity on the bank account from 6 January 2020 until the BBL was received into the account on 19 May 2020 comprised of deposits from Mr Iqbal and his co-director. • Accounts for the year ended 31 October 2020 disclose turnover as nil. • Mr Iqbal obtained a BBL of £50,000 on 19 May 2020, on behalf of ROS, having stated in the BBL application that ROS’s turnover was estimated to be £221,500. • The BBL remains outstanding at liquidation.
