Conduct: On 10 May 2020, Mr Imran Hussein (“Mr Hussein”) caused Mac’s Motors Limited (“MML”) to overstate its turnover to enable it to obtain a Bounce Back Loan (“BBL”) of £48,000 when he knew or ought to have known that the company was not entitled to a loan of that amount, in that: • Under the BBL scheme, businesses could apply for a BBL of up to 25% of their 2019 turnover, from a minimum of £2,000 to a maximum of £50,000. Businesses were asked, what is your annual turnover, or if your business was established after 1 January 2019, what is your estimated annual turnover. • MML was incorporated on 28 March 2019 and commenced trading immediately • The company accounts for the period 28 March 2019 to 31 March 2020 record a turnover of £54,959. • On 10 May 2020, Mr Hussein applied for a £48,000 BBL on behalf of MML, declaring its turnover as £250,000. • On 27 May 2020, MML received the £48,000 BBL funds into the company bank account. • As MML had been trading for over a year when the BBL application was made, Mr Hussein knew or ought to have known MML’s actual annual turnover was not £250,000. • Based on the turnover figure of £54,959 recorded on the company accounts dated 31 March 2020, the maximum BBL that MML was eligible to apply for was £13,740 and therefore the company received £34,260 more in BBL funding than it was entitled to. • MML entered Creditors Voluntary Liquidation on 02 July 2025 with liabilities of £65,414 of which £44,789 related to the BBL.
