Conduct: Shopna Begum (“Mrs Begum”) caused Curry Club (Broughton) T/A Indian.Com Limited, (“CCB”) to apply for a £50,000 Bounce Back Loan (“BBL”), using an overstated turnover figure of £210,000 in the loan application form, in consequence of which CCB received more monies than it was entitled to from the BBL scheme on 08 June 2020 in that, • Companies incorporated before 01 January 2019 could apply for a loan of up to 25% of turnover in the calendar year 2019, from a minimum of £2,000 up to a maximum of £50,000. If the company was incorporated after 01 January 2019 then an estimated annual turnover could be used by the applicant. • CCB was incorporated on 13 February 2018. • CCB’s financial statements for the period ending 28 February 2020 record annual turnover at £114,400, which would have allowed CCB to apply for a BBL of £28,600 (CBB’s management accounts for the previous period, to 28 February 2019, recorded turnover of £104,000). CBB’s bank statements show deposits totalling £43,271 for the calendar year 2019. • On the application form she declared CCB’s turnover in calendar year 2019 at £210,000 and applied for a £50,000 BBL, £21,400 more than CCB was entitled to based on 2019 turnover. • BBL funds of £50,000 were deposited into CCB’s bank account on 08 June 2020, leaving a credit balance of £61,319. • CCB entered liquidation on 31 January 2022. The Statement of Affairs reports creditors of CCB totalling £51,200, of which £50,000 is owed to the bank in respect of the unpaid BBL.
