Conduct: On 4 January 2021, Thomas Roddis (‘Mr Roddis’) applied for and obtained a Government-backed Bounce Back Loan (‘BBL’) of £50,000 for T S Roddis Limited (‘TSRL’) using an overstated turnover figure to obtain a larger BBL than TSLR was entitled to. In that: • The BBL Scheme allowed a business that was established before 01 January 2019 to borrow between £2,000 and a maximum of £50,000 based on 25% of its annual turnover in the calendar year 2019. • TSRL was incorporated on 16 August 2016. • Accounts filed for the financial years ended 31 July 2019 and 31 July 2020 disclose turnover of £51,392 and £47,422 respectively. • Bank statements for the calendar year 2019 disclose income of £56,240. • The Company applied for a BBL on 4 January 2021 from for £50,000, stating that the Company’s turnover for 2019 was £211,000. • However the Company was eligible to apply for a BBL of no more than £12,848 based on filed accounts or £14,060 based on Company Bank statements. By applying for, and securing, a BBL of £50,000, Mr Roddis caused the Company to obtain at least £35,940 more BBL funding that TSRL was entitled to. • The BBL was paid into the bank account of TSRL on 5 January 2021 following which payments were made to Mr Roddis and he has failed to provide evidence that the loan was used in its entirety for the economic benefit of TSRL. • The BBL remains outstanding in the sum of £50,103.
