Conduct: On 07 July 2020, Nicola Boothroyd (“Mrs Boothroyd”) caused Global North Limited (“Global”) to apply for a Bounce Back Loan (“BBL”) of £50,000, by overstating Global’ s turnover when she knew or ought to have known that Global was only entitled to a maximum BBL of £6,123, in that: • Under the BBL scheme, businesses could apply for a loan of between £2,000 and £50,000 subject to a maximum of up to 25% of turnover. The turnover figure was self-certified by the applicant. The turnover figure required was that for the calendar year 2019, or where a business was established after 01 January 2019, it was their estimated turnover. • Global was incorporated on 06 November 2012. • On 07 July 2020, Mrs Boothroyd submitted a BBL application declaring that Global’s turnover for the calendar year 2019 was £210,000. • On 25 July 2020, BBL funds of £50,000 were paid into Global’s bank account. • Global’s accounts for years ended 30 November 2019 and 30 November 2020 show turnover of £24,490 and £22,745 respectively. • Based on the BBL criteria and company turnover, Global was entitled to receive no more than £6,123. • As a result of the overstatement of turnover, Global received £43,877 more than it was entitled to from the BBL scheme. • On 31 October 2023, Global entered Creditors’ Voluntary Liquidation with total liabilities of £49,746 of which £48,246 relates to the outstanding BBL.
