Conduct: Mrs Uma Vigneswaran (“Mrs Vigneswaran”) failed to submit correct returns to HM Revenue & Customs (HMRC) for Self-Assessment Income Tax and Class 4 National Insurance Contributions (SA) from 2013 onwards. • Mrs Vigneswaran traded on a self-employed basis running a convenience store, trading as Day One Local Express, from 2009. • In 2019, HMRC issued an investigation into her tax affairs • HMRC determined from the records provided by Mrs Vigneswaran she had failed to submit correct returns for her SA from 2013 until 2019 and had under declared her SA liability by £143,748.29 • HMRC concluded this to be careless on the part of Mrs Vigneswaran and in addition applied penalties of £27,567.83 • Mrs Vigneswaran owed a total outstanding debt of £215,238.43 to HMRC in respect of SA, Value Added Tax, and PAYE at the date of the bankruptcy order. • £3800 payments were made by Mrs Vigneswaran between 18 October 2019 and 24 February 2020 towards her SA, however HMRC have confirmed none of these payments were applied against the enquiry charges
