Conduct: On 23 January 2021, Savinadevi Ghoorbin, (“Mrs Ghoorbin”) caused Escale Kaffeine Ltd (“Escale”) to apply and obtain a £48,000 government backed Bounce Back Loan (“BBL”) by overstating Escale’s turnover. As a result Escale received BBL funds of £37,839 that it was not entitled to, in that : Under the BBL scheme, businesses could apply for a loan of between £2,000 and £50,000 subject to a maximum of up to 25% of its turnover for the calendar year 2019. The turnover figure was self-certified by the applicant. Escale was incorporated on 03 December 2013. Returns submitted to HMRC by Escale in respect of Corporation Tax show that Escale’s turnover for the year 01/01/2019 to 31/12/2019 was £40,645, which would entitle Escale to a BBL of no more than £10,161. On 23 January 2021, Mrs Ghoorbin applied for a BBL of £48,000 on behalf of Escale, and she declared an annual turnover for 2019 of £205,000 in the application. The £48,000 BBL was paid into the company bank account on 11 March 2021. By overstating the company’s turnover on its application for a BBL, Mrs Ghoorbin caused Escale to obtain a higher BBL than it was entitled to. Escale entered Creditors’ Voluntary Liquidation on 03 July 2023 At liquidation, £47,535 of the BBL remained outstanding.
